Who We Are
Akwaaba is a volunteer-run, mutual-aid community in Hackney providing friendship, support and solidarity to migrants.
Akwaaba is a non-hierarchical community space for all migrants, regardless of immigration status, 'race', religion, country of origin, age, sexual orientation, gender identity or (dis)ability. We hold regular sessions in and around Hackney where we provide food, support and childcare.
We exist to to build community and foster care, cooperation and solidarity. As a non-hierarchical space, decision-making is done collectively and we give all members an equal say in how the social centre is run. All money donated goes directly to the community, funding our sessions and providing essential financial support to our members.
